The Head Football Coach for the App State Mountaineers Shawn Clark joined Kyle Bailey on Monday to look back on the roller coaster 2022 season, and how he plans on bouncing back this year.

The conversation started by reflecting on the 2022 season in which App State finished 6-6 Shawn pointed out how the first month was filled with the highest of highs and as the season went down the stretch the bounces didn’t go their way, especially in the tough Sun-Belt Conference.

When it came to this year Coach Clark made it clear that it is not a reload or a rebuild but it is a reset for the program to bounce back after last year and that included reassessing how they do things on a daily basis.

QB Chase Brice is no longer with the program and right now Shawn says the battle for the job has been healthy between Ryan Burger and Joey Aguilar and the starter will be announced sometime next week. Shawn also stressed the importance to Kyle of OC Frank Ponce returning to Boone as he knows what App State Football is all about and brings a calming presence to the program.

Things ended with Shawn being asked about the pressure for him after a disappointing 6-6 record Coach Clark told Kyle that he is glad he is under pressure after going 6-6 as it shows how high the standard is for the Mountaineers and he’d rather be under pressure than being ok with a 6-6 record.
