A pet monkey that ran away from its home in North Carolina has been safely captured and reunited with its owner, according to the Surf City Police Department. The department asked the public to report any sightings of the loose monkey, which was last seen near the marsh in the Canal Streets area. The monkey was reunited with its owner with the help of animal control officers. Photos shared by the police department showed Surf City Police Chief Phil Vorhees and an animal control officer holding the monkey. The police are now checking to ensure the owner has all the necessary paperwork to keep an exotic pet. A video shared by the police department on Facebook showed the monkey climbing in dead branches of a fallen tree before noticing observers filming and scampering away.
