The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officials reported that a gunman initiated a deadly shooting around 1:05 a.m. on Statesville Avenue, marking the beginning of a 30-minute rampage. As of now, the perpetrator remains at large despite the ongoing efforts to apprehend them.

Mustaffa Muhammad, aged 58, tragically lost his life when he was shot and killed inside his car on Statesville Avenue. According to loved ones, he was returning home from work when the incident occurred.

The Sandoval family’s apartment on Nations Ford Road bore the brunt of the shooting spree, with bullet holes peppering the walls by the time the chaos ended around 1:25 a.m. Leticia Sandoval, a resident of the apartment, described the harrowing experience, expressing how one bullet pierced a wall just above where her daughter was peacefully sleeping.Reflecting on the incident, Leticia Sandoval emphasized the gravity of the situation, describing it as “awful” and attributing their safety to what she called a miracle. She expressed gratitude, believing that divine intervention played a crucial role in protecting her family from harm during the frightening ordeal.

Minutes after the initial shootings, the violence continued as a gunman approached a group of people outside on Catherine Simmons Avenue and opened fire. During this attack, a woman inside her apartment was struck by a round, sustaining a shoulder injury with the bullet still lodged inside her. Reflecting on the incident in a phone interview with Channel 9, she recounted the frightening experience of being shot and the ongoing medical situation. Another man, also present during the shooting on Catherine Simmons Avenue, narrowly avoided being hit himself. He described feeling blessed and credited divine intervention, stating, “I serve an awesome God.” He recounted how bullets narrowly missed him, instead damaging his drink containers. He noticed the effects afterward, with one container’s top blown off and another having a hole from gunfire.

The violence didn’t stop there, as police reported that shortly after, a bicyclist was targeted with gunfire along LaSalle Street. Additionally, a man’s car was struck by bullets on the same street, adding to the string of dangerous incidents during the shooting spree.
