Trop Storm Dexter Pulls a U-Turn—Rain, But No Panic Shopping Required

Tropical Storm Dexter popped up off the North Carolina coast late Sunday night like that one cousin who shows up to the cookout uninvited—but with less drama and more drizzle. The National Hurricane Center confirmed Dexter’s tropical storm glow-up around 11 p.m., and by breakfast time Monday, he was already ghosting the Carolinas and heading east at a calm 12 mph. We guess he’s more of a brunch-and-breeze kind of storm.

With winds topping out at 45 mph, Dexter isn’t exactly trying to be a big deal—just enough wind to knock over your patio chair but not enough to make Grandma run to the store for milk and eggs like it’s 1999. The forecast says Dexter will slide north of Bermuda, give a little wave, and fizzle out mid-Atlantic. So no, you don’t need to stockpile toilet paper… unless you’re just into that sort of thing.
