Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Denzel Perryman, now suiting up for the Los Angeles Chargers, was arrested in L.A. on August 1 after deputies discovered a stash of firearms in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to reports from ESPN and TMZ, Perryman was pulled over by law enforcement and ended up in L.A. County Jail on felony weapons charges. Authorities say five guns were found in his car — including two AR-style rifles. Sources claim he told officers he was headed to a gun range, but things took a sharp turn from practice shots to mugshots.

Denzel Perryman joined the Carolina Panthers in March 2021, went through training camp, and appeared in the first two preseason matchups. But before the regular season even kicked off, he was shipped off to the Las Vegas Raiders on August 25 in exchange for a draft pick.

His most memorable moment as a Panther? Not on the field — it came when he got slapped with a speeding ticket for doing 91 mph en route to training camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Once in Vegas, Perryman hit his stride, posting a career-high 154 tackles in the 2021 season. He remained with the Raiders through 2022, signed with the Houston Texans in 2023, and came full circle in 2024 by returning to the Chargers — the team that originally drafted him and where he played from 2015 to 2020.

Now back in Los Angeles, Perryman is expected to be a key piece of the Chargers’ defense heading into the 2025 season.
