UPDATED [Sept. 20, 2019]: With you know who…

In any profession, one of the last things you want to be labeled as is a snitch. It doesn’t matter if you are a bus driver or the head of strategic fry operations at What A Burger. When your way of life stipulates that you act as hard body as possible and abide by all street codes, like being a rapper, this statement especially holds true.

But not all Hip-Hop artists can keep it as 100 as they claim when faced with the opportunity of giving the police a little more information than the G-code allows (which is none). On the other hand, snitching has such a leper like stigma that some artists get falsely accused of ratting in an attempt to soil their reputations. Be clear, if you do dirt, then rat on your comrades, that is snitching. However, if you are not about that life and are just a civilian going about your business, calling the authorities when a crime is committed is NOT snitching (despite what Cam’Ron will tell you). Know the difference.

That said, whether documented or just hearsay, here are 10 of Hip-Hop’s most prominent cases of the snitch label being tossed around…

Lil Cease allegedly snitched on Lil Kim

In 2005, the snitch label was placed on Junior M.A.F.I.A rapper Lil Cease after he took the stand in Lil’ Kim’s perjury trial. The case stemmed from a shootout incident that occurred between Kim’s camp and Capone’s crew outside of Hot97’s studio in February 2001. Due in part to Cease’s testimony Queen B was convicted of perjury and conspiracy for lying to investigators, and sentenced to a year in prison. Though B.I.G.’s former protégé claimed he had no choice but to take the stand because he was subpoenaed by the FEDS, many dubbed him a rat.

Then, according to authorities, he started dropping dimes like Chris Paul, offering a Proffer Agreement in exchange for time shaved off his inevitably lengthy sentence. Henchman reportedly detailed aspects of his operation and admitted to prosecutors that the majority of his income was derived from illegal means. He also admitted to loaning Wyclef drug money and selling the rapper’s driver several kilos of dope, as well as using Interscope’s offices do make drug drops.

50 Cent allegedly snitched on Ja Rule and Irv Gotti

50 Cent was labeled a snitch by many of his detractors early on in his career for name dropping local gangsters and detailing their exploits in his song, “Ghetto Quran.” But in March 2000, after getting into a scuffle with members of Murder Inc, nemesis Ja Rule swore Fif ran to the fuzz and filed for an order of protection against his crew. Muerto Inc members even posted the purported OOP document online to try to further soil Curtis’ thug image. Elements of the document were later proven to be falsified by XXL magazine.

Struggle rappers People were coming out of the woodworks trying to call the Kang a cowardly vermin, but unlike his former employee, no solid evidence in the form of court documents has surfaced to prove that T.I. did anything other than have a GREAT lawyer and a soft judge.

Capone allegedly snitched on Killa Black

When Mobb Deep member Prodigy’s biography, My Infamous Life hit shelves, one of the biggest revelations made by P was that Capone of CNN supposedly snitched on Havoc’s brother Killa Black, back in the day. Capone fired back refuting the allegations, but no hard evidence has ever come forward to substantiate either rapper’s story. Despite having worked with Capone on several occasions since he allegedly tattled on his man’s bro, P has never backed down from his story and insists Pone took the stand.
