A lawsuit filed Monday accuses Black Lives Matter of inciting the deadly sniper attack on Dallas police officers in July, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Enrique Zamarripa, the father of slain Officer Patrick Zamarripa, seeks $550 million in damages. The federal suit alleges that BLM and other groups promoted a “a war on police” that inspired the shooter.
Zamarripa, 32, was patrolling a peaceful rally July 7 in downtown Dallas in the aftermath of back-to-back police shootings of Black men in Minnesota and Louisiana. As the march ended, Micah Johnson opened fire on the police, killing five officers including Zamarripa.
“I want justice for my son,” the slain officer’s father told The Star-Telegram. “He served three tours in Iraq, he protected his country, and he protected everybody. And he gave up his life doing that.”
Judicial Watch founder Larry Klayman, who sued Hillary Clinton on behalf of two men over the Benghazi attack, represents the father in the lawsuit. In it, Klayman called BLM a “violent and revolutionary criminal gang.”
The newspaper underscored that suit bypassed naming the Next Generation Action Network and its leaders as defendants, even though the group helped to organize the protest. However, Klayman named several high-profile activists as defendants, including Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Rev. Al Sharpton.
