After a stellar performance in Dee Rees’ “Mudbound” just about everyone is raving that Mary J. Blige has successfully transitioned into a serious acting career and it looks like she is just getting started.

In fact, in a recent interview with IndieWire.com, Blige mentioned that she would love to be in Marvel movie after seeing Wonder Woman twice over last summer.
Blige went to see “Wonder Woman” twice this summer and, like many, was inspired. “Wonder Woman is Wonder Woman, [Gal Gadot] took that on home, but I would love to be in one of those Marvel movies,” said Blige with a smile. “I can definitely see that.”
Now I know what your thinking, what are the chances that we will really see Blige in a Marvel movie, or even a DC Comics movie for that matter?
However, I’m here to tell you while her chances may be limited there still may be a few opportunities. Over the last decade we’ve seen a number African-American actresses like Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Tessa Thompson and Alexandra Shipp take on the roles of some our favorite African-American female comic book superheroes and villains and who’s to say that Blige couldn’t be eventually included on that list.
The concern is that most of the popular female characters like the famous X-Men character Storm already have suitors. However, there are quite a few underrated African-American female superheroes especially in DC Comics that Blige could possibly be cast as.

1. Nubia (DC Comics)
For starters since Blige was such a huge fan of Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman, I figure she would love the opportunity to play the female super-hero Nubia.
Now who is Nubia, you ask? Believe it or not she is is Wonder Woman’s dark-skinned sister, since both sisters were formed by Queen Hippolyta through clay.
We first got introduced to Nubia In Wonder Woman (vol. 1) #204, where Diana (Wonder Woman) has her memories restored by the Amazons and is soon confronted by an armored female warrior who challenges her to single combat. The challenger introduced herself as Nubia, the one true Wonder Woman, and tells Diana that they will meet again someday to decide which of them has the right to the title.

Now, the chances of Nubia getting her own movie are slim as of right now but should DC decide to include Nubia, in one of there upcoming Wonder Woman movie storylines, the opportunity could rise for Blige to audition for the role.

2. Philippus (DC Comics)
Again, since Blige loved the latest Wonder Woman movie so much, another good African-American female superhero character she might want to dip into is Philippus.
Philippus is a Themyscirian Amazon that served as Captain of the Royal Guard and Queen Hippolyta’s highest general. In the comic books she was a trusted advisor to the Queen and helped to raise and train a young Diana (Wonder Woman) in her youth.
In the 2017 Wonder Woman film, Philippus is played by Ann Ogbomo (see her picture below).
Similar to Nubia, it’s a very slim chance that Phillippus will get her own movie but as they continue to move forward with Wonder Woman movies, Phillippus’s role may expand, opening the door for Blige, plus we would love to see her in full Amazonian gear wielding a weapon and showing off her high levels of hand-to-hand combat!

3. Misty Knight (Marvel)
You may not be familiar with Misty Knight but she is total bad-a** and known for ridding New York City of its criminals.
She is former NYPD cop, who lost her right arm in a bombing but thanks to Tony Stark better known as Iron Man, she receives a bionic prosthetic and starts a private investigation agency with close friend Colleen Wing, to form the crime fighting duo, Daughters of the Dragon. She frequently work with popular heroes like Luke Cage and Iron Fist, who are known for taking the law into their own hands in the name of justice.
If you want a hint at what Misty Knight act and looks like outside of the comic books, check out “Luke Cage” on Netflix, where Simone Missick currently portrays her. (See her picture below).

Should they make a Luke Cage movie, can’t you just Blige dressed in red spandex outfit with an afro puff hairstyle, not to mention she would have a cool bionic arm and hell of weaponry. Plus, it’s no coincidence that they both hail from New York.
