After a lot of talk in the off-season about how much improved the 49ers were going to be defensively, and as a team, Biff Poggi finds himself 1-4, entering the bye week, with competitive losses to Power 5 programs, Maryland and Florida. With that in mind, it is time for the program to reset expectations for the rest of 2023.

News broke on Wednesday morning that Clemson’s departure from the ACC may be much sooner than originally expected and the man who broke that story, Gene Sapakoff of the Charleston Post & Courier joined Kyle Bailey to break down the situation. This situation has been lurking over the last 1 or so with Clemson according […]

The North Carolina Tar Heels are 3-0, ranked inside the top 20, and have a legitimate shot at getting back to the ACC Championship Game in December, in large part, because of their QB Drake Maye. Yet, there are those who believe that Maye, who entered the season as a proverbial top 5 pick in next year's NFL Draft, and a sleeper for the Heisman Trophy, hasn't played at the highest level to start the season.

The 2023 college football season is in full swing, with Week 2 already underway. When you look back at Week 1, one of the more impressive results, was North Carolina routing South Carolina 31-17, in the Duke's Mayo Classic. Drake Maye, who is considered a consensus top-5 pick in next year's draft, and a potential Heisman Trophy candidate, played well, throwing for two touchdowns.

The 2023 college football season gets underway this weekend, with a handful of Week 0 games, before the season gets into full swing next weekend across the Labor Day holiday. Among the many questions across the sports landscape, involves the Clemson Tigers, a perennial power in the 2010s, that has missed the College Football Playoff the last two seasons. As the sport has changed in recent years with the arrival of NIL, and the ability to transfer without penalty, Dabo Sweeney hasn't been very welcoming to the new way the game is being played, and many believe that is the reason for his programs' "drop". Let's not act like the last two seasons have been bad, as Clemson has won 21 combined games, captured another ACC championship, and went to another New Year's Six bowl game. But when the expectation is a national title or bust, it's easy to see why there are doubts that Clemson has staying power in the new world of college football.

In the modern era of college football, offense is the name of the game, and it's hard to be a national title contender unless you're capable of scoring over 40 points per game. When Clemson was winning national titles with Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence, the Tigers were generally among the best offensive programs in the country. Since Lawrence departed for the NFL, Clemson hasn't had the same level of offensive output, and that's the biggest reason why the Tigers haven't made the College Football Playoff since losing to LSU in the 2021 national championship game.
