NFL: AUG 09 Carolina Panthers - New York Jets Joint Practice

The first day of joint practices for the Carolina Panthers against the New York Jets appeared to have gone pretty well on Wednesday. Not only was there a record crowd around the practice field at Wofford, but there was a lot to be excited about on the field, as well.

Reports from around the Jets suggest that this was the worst practice that the team has had this preseason and Aaron Rodgers was supposedly visibly frustrated with the performance of the team, especially in the two-minute drill.

Meanwhile, it seems like the Panthers had a pretty good day for themselves. Bryce Young and the offense were able to move the ball down for a field goal in their two-minute drill and overall the reviews were positive. According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Young was 14 of 22 on the day with some nice throws over the middle of the field and his one interception was a ball that was tipped off the hands of D.J. Chark. This is a very encouraging start for Young who some were worried about earlier in training camp.

The reviews of the defense were rather mixed, though the team did come up with a three-and-out on that two-minute drill that we mentioned above. Brian Burns had a big day according to those in attendance, but the secondary was picked apart at times by the Jets’ future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Prior to the practice, head coach Frank Reich stopped by with the Mac & Bone Show, which was broadcasting live from Homer Hill in Spartanburg. He talked about the progression of his special connection with Jim Kelly, rookie quarterback and how special it is to be back in Charlotte.
