Panthers legendary WR Steve Smith returned to the Kyle Bailey Show as he recapped the Panthers 2nd preseason game, and if we should be worried over Ikem Ekwonu’s play so far.

Steve first looked at the overall performance of the Panthers against the Giants as he saw improvement after the first preseason game against the Jets, and Steve came away impressed with Bryce Young as he played better and “passed” the test for week 2. Matt Corral also had an improved performance as well.

The main concern after Friday’s game against the Giants was Ikem Ekwonu’s struggles as Steve said this should not be a concern because this is the time of the year when you learn about and now is a good time for Ickey to learn as you have to face so many different edge rushers throughout the season. Steve also wanted people to remember that he is only entering his 2nd year and will never be perfect.

On the defensive side, Steve noted how evaluations are more on an individual basis compared to a group because now is the time when certain guys play at odd times because they will either get cut or traded and that is why judging players on defense is more of an individual concern compared to the defense as a whole.
