Carolina Panthers v Chicago Bears

The Panthers’ ugly 2023 season got even worse on Thursday night in the Windy City with a 16-13 loss to the Chicago Bears. Placekicker Eddy Pineiro missed a game-tying 59-yard field goal attempt with 1:40 left in the game to put the bow on another brutal night offensively that has many questioning Frank Reich and the rest of the offensive staff.

For the first time this season, the offense failed to score a touchdown, putting up fewer points in nine offensive drives than the special teams unit had on one punt return. The team had just 213 yards of offense, averaging just 3.7 yards per play on their 57 offensive snaps. Despite being in a close game the entire night, the offensive coaching staff chose to force the passing game, calling 44 designed passing plays to just 13 run plays, including none once the team crossed midfield on the final drive when it could have helped get the team into a better position to kick the field goal.

This rough night offensively against the lowly Bears took a toll on a lot of Panther fans, but maybe none so more than Mac, who talked about the fact that he is losing faith in this coaching on the Mac & Bone Show this morning. “My anger towards this coaching staff is at a high. This offensive coaching staff that we all hyped up in the offseason looks awful. There should not be anything good said about any of the individuals on thie offensive coaching staff, including Frank Reich. Those guys are incompetent, man.” With the results that we have seen from this offense, even in recent weeks under new play-caller Thomas Brown, it’s hard to argue against it.
