Carolina Panthers v Seattle Seahawks

It’s no secret that the 2023 Carolina Panthers are off to a slow start under Frank Reich. The team has won just one of the twelve games that he has coached so far dating back to the preseason, which is easily the worst start that a head coach has had with the franchise. This has led to some fans already demanding that the team move on from him after just one season, which seems a bit crazy. However, one big name in the NFL media says that it cannot be completely ruled out right now.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter talked about the Panthers situation on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday and pointed to David Tepper as the reason that this could be a possibility. “I don’t think anyone has a long rope there because of the type of season their having. One thing about David Tepper is he’s not very patient. I don’t think that people are thinking that there’s trouble right now with those people, but would anybody be surprised with anything that happens in Carolina after this year?”

Earlier this morning, Panthers beat writer for The Athletic, Joe Person, joined the Mac & Bone Show and said that there is a different member that the heat would fall on if this season continues to head in the wrong direction. “I think the first level of heat falls on Fitterer. He’s been around longer, he had a bad free agency this year, some of his drafts, you look back and there’s just not a lot of impact guys, and some of the trades he made up for guys. I think if things continue trending downward, I think Scott Fitterer would really be in jeopardy.”

While Person thinks that Fitterer would be the first to go, he agreed that Reich being let go can’t be completely taken off the table. “I tend to think Frank Reich and his staff will be safe just because that would be quiet an admission of getting it wrong by David Tepper, but if 1-16 happens than I think all bets are off for anything.”
